Celebrate the Day of the Dead With a Hands-On Cocktail Class with Nacho Jimenez

Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday where families come together to honor their late loved ones and are said to reunite with their spirits. This is a happy occasion to pay homage to family and one’s heritage. Typically, ofrendas (altars) are built with photos of the departed, flowers (including marigolds), and their favorite food and drink.
In celebration of this festive holiday, guests will have the chance to experience chef-forward cocktails from Mexican American cocktail bar Superbueno, recently named the best new cocktail bar in the U.S by the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation 2024. In a hands-on class led by co-owner Nacho Jimenez, participants will enjoy a mole negroni (mole is one of the most traditional food items left on the ofrenda), a mushroom margarita, and a salted plum and tamarind milk punch accompanied by Superbueno’s standout guacamole and birria grilled cheese sandwiches.

 About Ignacio “Nacho” Jimenez:
Ignacio “Nacho” Jimenez has been in the hospitality industry for nearly 25 years, in which he’s held almost every position, front-and-back of the house, diligently working to become a first-time bar owner at SUPERBUENO, the recently opened Mexican American cocktail bar in New York’s East Village. His past experiences include running award-winning bar programs in New York at The Daily, Madam Geneva, Saxon + Parole and, most recently, Ghost Donkey, where he created the bar’s agave-forward cocktail program and showcased the art of Mexican hospitality that garnered many accolades including being named Imbibe’s Bar of the Year' in 2020.
Jimenez created SUPERBUENO as a joyful neighborhood gathering spot that pays homage to his Mexican culture while distinctly reflecting his home in New York. As co-owner, he serves as the bar’s Maestro de Ceremonias, an elevated role of the traditional Maitre d’. Beyond creating the bar’s signature cocktail program, Jimenez instills his life, spirit, and creativity into the bar’s design, food program, music, and dynamic lighting. Since opening in April 2023, the bar was ranked #2 on North America's 50 Best Bars 2024, named Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar at the 2024 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards, named one of Esquire's Best Bars in America 2023, and Best Bar Program for VinePair's 2023 Next Wave Awards. When not curating the SUPERBUENO experience, Jimenez can be found discovering New York and its many offerings, seeking inspiration for SUPERBUENO’s present and future. Oh, and on select evenings, he may be found in a small club DJing vinyl disco & house records. 


Tickets to events held at Platform at Pier 57 by the James Beard Foundation cover the cost of food, education and a unique dining experience. Meals are prepared by culinary masters from all regions of the United States and around the world. Unless otherwise stated, alcoholic beverages are provided on a complimentary basis and are not included in the ticket price.

Reservation Policy:

All reservations are non-refundable and must be made in advance. Should the event be cancelled due to any unforeseen circumstances, including COVID-19, JBF will offer a range of options, including ticket exchanges, the option to donate tickets, or a full refund.
